It is with deep sadness that I have to write we had to put Sophie to sleep this afternoon. She actually had a pretty good day. She had a nice walk this morning, rested in the front window with the fan gently blowing her fur and a big lunch. We were thrilled she ate so voraciously. She was waking up from a nap when she had what we are calling a seizure. She was unable to get herself up from her side and when we got her standing she would fall to the floor if I didn't catch her. Whatever it was that she was fighting, clearly found it's way to her brain.
I plan to descend into the cavernous grief I am feeling for a few days. I will cry hard, sleep lots and pack away her things. I appreciate all the interest and support you all have shown towards Sophie all throughout her life. She was a great dog and friend.

Peggy and Roy, I'm so sorry! Sophie was a great girl and she had a wonderful doggie life. She truly was blessed among dogs.

What a beautiful blog, Peggy. Sophie was such a great dog and friend and we now she is with God now, running and playing in a wonderfully clear, cool lake with all her friends. We love you guys and are thinking/praying for you. -Pip, Christine, and Bailey
I am heartbroken to hear this news. Sophie was a beautiful, sweet, life-loving, people-loving dog. We feel fortunate to have known her. I will
miss the morning splashes that I could hear from my backyard and also seeing her retrieve her frisbee endlessly or until she was told it was the last one.
I know that our dogs do not live long enough, but I a
certain it is because they know right way exactly how to live in perfect love and harmony. They master in their shorter lives what it takes most humans to achieve in decades. They give to us the simplest gift of unconditional love and they fill our hearts with such peace.
Sophie will be missed in our neighborhood and I am so sorry for your loss. Let's imagine her as a puppy once again, filled with her playful spirit, no longer tired and suffering in any way.
